My Vacuum Won’t Power On – AZ4000 Series
If your vacuum is plugged into an outlet but doesn't turn on when you press the power button on the handle, your hose may not be fully connected to the vacuum. The Shark® POWERDETECT™ Upright Vacuum has a powered hose and will not turn on unless the connection is secure. Make sure to press the hose into the pod until you hear a click.
Look for the latch! You will be able to tell that the connection is complete when you hear the click and the 'Hose Release' button is all the way down in the front and up on the back.
You'll also see that the silver bar between the arrows on the side of the pod will disappear. (NOTE: not all models may have the silver bar.)
If you can pull out the hose without pressing the release button, the hose is not fully secure!
Follow the steps above again until you can no longer pull the hose from the vacuum without pressing the button.
Try turning the vacuum on. If the vacuum still doesn’t turn on and you’ve ensured that the hose is fully connected, unplug the vacuum make sure that the power cord is not damaged in any way. Then if there is no damage, move to a different outlet you’ve verified is working with another device and try to see if the vacuum turns on there.
Hopefully your vacuum now turns on when you press the button! If the motor turns on and you can hear the unit running, but not everything is working as it should, there’s more steps to try.
- Disassemble the vacuum so that the handle and hose, wand, and floor nozzle are completely separated.
2. Using a flashlight, check the following places for debris and remove:
- The 3-hole connection at the end of the handle (A)
- The 3 pins on the top of the wand where the handle attaches (B)
- The 3-hole connection point on the bottom of the wand (C)
- The 3 pins on the floor nozzle (D)
3. While the unit is still disassembled, we’ll check for clogs.
- Get a coin and drop it down the handle (A). If it doesn’t come out the hose end, you have a clog that needs to be removed.
- Use the same coin and check the wand (C) in the same manner.
-
Then, check the floor nozzle (D). Tilt nozzle neck back and check opening for blockages. Turn the nozzle upside down and access the nozzle hose by pinching the two release touchpoints and lifting the cover. See the images below:
4. Next, empty your dustcup and remove the foam and felt filters below and tap them clean over a trash bin.
5. Lastly, reassemble your vacuum, making sure you hear a click as you assemble each piece together, and turn it on.
