How do I use the different cleaning modes?
This Shark® vacuum has two powerful settings for cleaning. The surface selector switch is located on the power button.
To clean bare floors:
- Slide the surface selector switch to Hard Floor.
- Press the power button and tilt the handle back while gently stepping on the floor nozzle. Note that the brushroll will spin slower in this mode.
Note: Use Hard Floor setting for maximum suction when cleaning areas above the floor. For easier maneuverability on low pile area rugs, move the suction control slider on the handle to MIN to avoid lifting rugs. For easier cleaning on upholstery and drapes, move the suction control slider on the handle to MIN.
To clean low pile and thick carpets:
- Slide the surface selector switch to Carpet.
- To activate the brushroll, step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back. Note that the brushroll will spin faster in this mode.
Note: Move the suction control slider on the handle to MIN to reduce suction when vacuuming carpets. Slide to MAX for more suction on bare floors.
How long is the cord on my Shark vacuum?
The cord is approximately 25 feet long.
When and how do I empty the dust cup?
For optimal performance, empty the dust cup each time you vacuum, or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line.
- Pull the release tabs on the dust cup handle. Tilt the dust cup down, away from the wand, then pull it up and away from the pod.
- Hold the dust cup over the trash. Push the front-facing button on the bottom of the dust cup and the lid will drop open.

How do I access and clean the brushroll?

- Turn the nozzle upside down. Using scissors, carefully remove any string, hair, or debris that may be wrapped around the brushroll.
- Reattach the pod to the nozzle, clicking it into place.
Note: Do not vacuum wet messes.
How and when do I adjust the suction?
The suction control slider on the handle allows you to adjust the suction for different floor types.
Ensure the power/surface switch is set to the correct floor type before adjusting suction power.
MIN: to reduce suction and increase maneuverability on carpets.
MAX: to increase suction on hard floors.
How do I turn my vacuum off?
Press the power/surface selector switch to setting (O) Off.
How do I detach the pod for portable above-floor cleaning?
To clean stairs, upholstery, and other hard-to-reach abovefloor areas in Lift-Away® mode:
Select setting I, Hard Floor.
Detach the pod from the floor nozzle by pressing the LiftAway button on the base of the pod.
Gripping the handle of the pod, gently lift the pod up and away from the floor nozzle.
What happens if I experience small static shocks while vacuuming?
Certain dry temperatures in winter or dry desert areas may cause common static electricity to build up in the vacuum, producing small shocks, similar to what you might experience from contact with doorknobs, wool sweaters, or blankets. This is harmless. In order to avoid this, we recommend moisturizing your hands and/or removing wool socks or sweaters prior to vacuuming.
How do I clean above-floors with or without accessories?
To clean with the handle:
Press the Handle Release button on the back of the wand. Gently pull up on the handle to remove it from the wand.
For more cleaning reach, leave the handle on the wand, and detach the wand from the pod. Press the Wand Release button on the back of the pod, then gently pull up on the handle to remove the wand.
Attach an accessory to the handle or the wand and begin cleaning
When and how do I clean the filters?
Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum stops picking up dirt, if airflow is restricted, or if you notice lighter or no suction. For optimal cleaning and Odor Neutralizer Technology performance, clean filters regularly. Between cleanings, lightly tap filters over a trash receptacle to remove dust and debris as needed. Rinse the pre-motor foam and felt filters every month, or as needed.
- Remove the dust cup to access the pre-motor filters.
- Pull the release tabs on the dust cup handle. Lift the dust cup up and away from the pod.
- Remove the foam and felt filters from underneath the dust cup. Remove the foam filter from the plastic base.
- Rinse both filters with cold water only.
- Allow filters to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
- Once the filters have dried, install the felt filter first, then reinsert the foam filter into the plastic base and install it on top of the felt filter.
- Reinstall the dust cup by placing the bottom of it into the pod and then tilting it until it clicks into place.
Rinse the post-motor HEPA filter every 12 months, or as needed.
- With the dust cup removed, pull the tab on the bottom of the pod to detach the HEPA filter cover.
- Pull out the HEPA filter.
- Rinse the filter with cold water only.
- Allow the filter to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
- Once the HEPA filter has dried, reinstall it by pressing it firmly into place.
- Reattach the HEPA filter cover by inserting the top first, then the bottom, until it clicks securely into place.
