How do I assemble my vacuum?
1. Slide vacuum pod onto floor nozzle post.
2. Insert wand into vacuum pod.
3. Insert handle into wand.
4. Attach hose to back of pod.
How do I use the different cleaning modes?
This Shark vacuum has two powerful settings for cleaning.
To clean bare floors or with accessories:
-Press the power/surface selector switch to setting (I) Hard Floor.
-To activate the brushrolls, step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back. Note that the brushroll will spin slower in this mode.
Note: Use setting I for easier maneuverability on area rugs.
To clean carpets:
-Press the power/surface selector switch to setting (II) Carpet.
-To activate the brushrolls, step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back.
Note that the brushroll will spin faster in this mode.
Note: Move the suction control slider on the handle to MIN to reduce suction when vacuuming carpets. Slide to MAX for more suction on bare floors.
How and when do I adjust the suction?
The suction control slider on the handle allows you to adjust the suction for different floor types. Ensure the power/surface switch is set to the correct floor type before adjusting suction power.
MIN: to reduce suction and increase maneuverability on carpets.
MAX: to increase suction on hard floors.
How do I turn my vacuum off?
Press the power/surface selector switch to setting (O) Off.
How do I clean above-floor areas and detach the pod for portable cleaning?
For Lift-Away Mode:
Step on the pedal on the floor nozzle to lift off the pod. When finished cleaning in Lift-Away mode, reattach the pod by sliding it onto the floor nozzle post until it clicks into place.
For above-floor cleaning with the handle only:
Press the Handle Release button and pull up on the handle to detach it from the wand. For above-floor cleaning with the wand: Press the Wand Release button and pull up on the wand to detach it from the pod.
When and how should I clean the filters?
Filters may need to be cleaned if your vacuum stops picking up dirt, if airflow is restricted, or if you notice lighter or no suction. Between cleanings, hold filters over the trash and tap lightly to remove dust and debris as needed.
Pre-motor foam and felt filters:
-Rinse the pre-motor filters every 3 months.
-Remove the dust cup, then take out the filters.
-Rinse filters with water only, and allow them to air-dry completely before reinstalling.
-Return the filters to their housing, reinstalling the felt filter first, followed by the foam filter.
-Reattach the dust cup.
Post-motor HEPA filter:
-Rinse the HEPA filter every 12 months, or as needed.
-To remove the HEPA filter, first pull the tab on the bottom of the filter door, then lift off the door.
-Press the tab on the left side of the HEPA filter and pull out the filter.
-To reinstall the HEPA filter, insert the right side of the filter first. Push in the tab on the left side of the HEPA filter until it clicks into place.
-To reinstall the door, align the top first,
then press in the bottom until it clicks into place.
When and how do I empty the dust cup?
For optimal performance, empty the dust cup each time you vacuum, or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line.
-To remove the dust cup, pull up on the release button located on the side of dust cup handle. Tilt dust cup forward, then lift to remove.
-Hold the dust cup over the trash and press the release button. The bottom lid will drop open.
-Tap gently to empty contents and wipe the interior of the dust cup with a soft cloth.
-Press the bottom lid shut until it clicks into place.
-To remove collected debris from the cone-shaped lint screen inside the dust cup, lift the tab at the top of the dust cup and open the top lid. Clear away any debris from the screen, then close the lid.
What happens if I experience small static shocks while vacuuming?
Certain dry conditions in winter or dry desert areas may cause common static electricity to build up in the vacuum, producing small shocks, similar to what you might experience from contact with doorknobs, wool sweaters, or blankets. This is harmless. In order to avoid this, we recommend moisturizing your hands and/or removing wool socks or sweaters prior to vacuuming.
What should I do if the power cord gets caught in the brushroll or floor nozzle?
-To minimize the risk of power cord damage, DO NOT run your vacuum over the power cord. If this occurs, immediately shut off power to the vacuum and remove the cord from the brushrolls or nozzle.
-Inspect the power cord and plug for any damage before use. DO NOT use your vacuum cleaner with a damaged cord or plug. Turn off power before plugging in or unplugging your vacuum cleaner. Store your vacuum cleaner with the power cord secured around the two cord hooks.
